National Poetry Month Day 1

“The Door That Leads to Nowhere”

They all sat back and laughed as she
groped around in the blinding light
for a door that leads to nowhere.

Her outstretched arms were the forked tongue
of a snake tasting the air to
stalk its prey and quench its hunger.

Blindly she floundered for that door.

Their laughter sang out her folly.
