National Poetry Month Day 10

“My Sweet Angel”

O Death, my sweet angel, grant her release
from the pain she’s suffered all the years.
Raging agony has been her wears,
a royal gown befits a queen with disease.

A dear protector whose presence frees
the face of her the malady bares
O Death, my sweet angel, grant her release
from the pain she’s suffered all the years.

Hear my prayer. I beg you, please.
I cannot look as the aching sears
against her grace—drowning in tears.
I’ll pay any price, you name the fees,
O Death, my sweet angel, grant her release.

(In memory of Lauren Hill, the truest of Champions)
