National Poetry Month Day 25

“Company”

Seeking company, I ended alone
as those who were friends lie.
We were to gather for wine and rye
but instead it was just me at home.

Their lies made sense, I must condone
The reasons for which away they shy.
Seeking company, I ended alone
as those who were friends lie.

Drinking my Scotch, I wondered why
to do with me my friends want none.
Then realizing no friends I own,
another drink so that I won’t die.
Seeking company, I ended alone.
